Yoseph Helbawi (OK 2013)

Yoseph (d. 2 January 2020) was a kind, brave and modest young man who had attended the King’s junior and senior schools. He was a bright and determined student, having successfully completed a bachelor’s degree at Durham University, before starting a Master’s degree in London. Yoseph will be sorely missed by everyone in the King’s community and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time. Following his own life-saving bone marrow transplant during his time at King’s, Yoseph cared greatly about the excellent work done by Anthony Nolan, a charity that saves the lives of people with blood cancer who need a stem cell or bone marrow transplant.  Given Yoseph’s commitment to raising awareness about how transplants can save lives, a memorial fundraiser for Anthony Nolan has been set up in his name; he said: “If there are more people on the register, we can increase the odds for everyone in need of a better match. Unfortunately a lot of patients (such as those with leukaemia) never find a match suitable to them. As such, please consider joining the stem cell register. It’s normally relatively pain-free to donate and the younger you are, the better”.
